I found this peculiar little book and was drawn in from page one. "Out of the Black" is the story of the last surviving dragon on Earth, but it opens with a background into the history of dragons. As well, unicorns and gryphons are covered, which leads me to assume that the author will cover these beings in depth in the future. As I read the pre-story intro,I felt like I was in school, possibly Hogworts at first, ha-ha, studying creatures that truly existed. Now as I ponder his words again in my mind, I wonder if he knows something we do not, and I must deduce that it IS possible that dragons do or have existed somewhere in our history, because his deductions are sound. Just because we haven't found factual evidence, does not mean dragons, unicorns, and gryphons have never walked this Earth. Onto the story..."Out of the Black" is a lovely little tale of two people, a man and his wife, discovering a new cave into the Earth where appears a dragon who has been hibernating for a thousand years. The couple befriends the dragon, which takes the massive beast by surprise, and before the day is done, the couple worry about the dragon's safety considering our rapid growth in technology, fearing that massive weapons of destruction could be a quick, horrible end for their new friend, if he is discovered. The tale ends with one as worried as the couple, wondering what might happen to this beautiful, near extinct creature if discovered by others who are not so friendly. I know that I, for on, am worried. However, the author, though leaving me hanging (and I like cliff-hangers) carries on the story into his next book, "Into the Blue," which I shall soon read.
All in all, "Out of the black" is a short read told with much description, in a colorful, thought jumping way that hints at the stylings on Tolkien and HP Lovecraft (minus Lovecraft's gore, of course) yet in a style all its own. Much time is spent with the author delving into each scene, sporadically adding random thoughts, much like our own minds actually work. I rather enjoyed this approach and felt it refreshing to break away from the typical writing style of most of today's Kindle authors, and I look forward to reading many more books by this author.

Mordechai Ben-Menachem should write more books about all these creatures in their own words. That would make you a true great author.
